Cash back cards turn everyday spending into real money. Here is a look at the strongest cash back credit card offers currently on the market.
Of all credit card rewards, cash is the most flexible and the most valuable. A cash back card pays a reward on every dollar spent. Some cards also partner with affiliates to pay extra on particular kinds of spending, such as travel or gas stations.
Here is how it works in practice: spend $50 at a restaurant with a card that pays 2% cash back on dining, and $1.00 comes back to you. In effect, a cash back card works like a discount on everything you buy. The cards below are worth a closer look.
Chase Freedom Unlimited® Card
The Chase Freedom Unlimited® card pays 1.5% cash back on every purchase. Travel booked through Chase earns bonus rewards. Restaurant dining and drugstore purchases earn 3% cash back, and everything else earns 1.5%.
New cardholders can collect a $200 bonus, plus an extra 5% cash back at gas stations. To qualify, spend $500 on purchases within the first three months after opening the account.
The card also carries a 0% intro APR for 15 months on purchases and balance transfers. Once that period ends, the APR runs from 15.74% to 24.49%.
Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card
The Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card has no annual fee and pays a strong rate on all spending. New cardholders who spend $1,000 in the first three months earn a $200 cash rewards bonus. The card pays 2% cash back on every purchase, whether it is at restaurants, gas stations, travel sites, or online stores.
It also includes up to $600 of cell phone protection against damage or theft. To be covered, pay your monthly cell phone bill with the card.
New cardholders also get a 0% introductory APR for up to 15 months. After that, the variable APR is 16.49%, 21.49%, or 26.49%.
